Understand the assumptions.
Cash cycle = collection days + inventory days − supplier payment days. Cycle funding = annual cash operating costs ÷ 365 × max(0, cycle days). Buffer = annual costs ÷ 12 × chosen months. Additional need = max(0, cycle funding + buffer − available cash).
This is a steady-state planning approximation, not balance-sheet working capital or a loan recommendation. A detailed forecast should model uneven receipts, seasonal inventory, growth, taxes, debt service, and major purchases.
Before you use the result.
Use the estimate as a starting point for a conversation about your business.
Why can the cash cycle be negative?
Customers may pay before suppliers must be paid. The tool shows the negative cycle but assigns zero cycle funding before adding your buffer.
Does this tell me how much to borrow?
No. Compare the estimate with a detailed cash forecast, financing costs, and repayment capacity before discussing borrowing.
Are my figures stored or submitted?
No. This calculator runs in your browser and does not save or submit the numbers. Booking and contact forms are separate services.
